Mr. Guder

Following the all conquering seven inch singles 'Super Guder Breaks Vol.1' and 'Super Guder Breaks Vol.3' - little beauties that mixed hip hop, funk, blues and jazz from the 60's to the 90's, garnered praise from the likes of Mark B, Rob Da Bank, Freddy Fresh, Egon @ Stones Throw, Rob Luis & Big Daddy magazine, and were heard on radio from Pittsburgh to Lyon via Craig Charles on BBC 6Music - Mr.Guder began receiving an increasing number of requests to take their raw funk breaks to the people and start playing live...

For those that don't yet know, Mr.Guder isn't an ageing Dutch p*rn star, or even an ageing European funk band. It's actually just two ageing school friends with an ageing reel to reel 8 track, and a penchant for sparkly drum kits and ageing keyboards.

Beginning as a live drum recording session, the chaps soon found they had the basis of a few releasable recordings, and decided to release them DIY style, using the Funkydown banner that Simon had wanted to become a 'real record label' since about 1992. Spurred on by what they heard from other like-minded labels – tru Thoughts, Stones Throw, Breakin' Bread, they've quickly amassed a stack of recordings, and an album is in the works for the near future….

In the studio Mr.Guder is: Jim Oliver (Lead Guitars, Bass, Moog-like squealing & camp clapping) and Simon Ward (Drums, Rhythm Guitar, Hammond impressions, Percussion & slightly camper clapping) and following umpteen requests to play live, they've drafted in a third old school mate Drew Smyth to handle bass guitar duties. Power Trio Funk!

Debuting at The Social in London in late 2002, 2003 saw live gigs at Fluid, The Salmon & Compasses, and a showcase on the rooftop of MTV's Oxford Street offices, which led to an appearance for Mr.Guder at the MTV/Terminator 3 party at Pierre Cardin's villa – one of the highlights of The Cannes Film Festival in May 2003. 2004 has seen continued live raw funk action with slots for Jelly Jazz in Plymouth, Lunar Lounge in London's East End, Heritage @ 93 Feet East, Peepshow @ The Bullingdon in Oxford, The Jazz Café in Camden and Breakin Bread @ Jagz in Ascot.
